Les « Dalits », 300 millions de personnes, presque un tiers de la population indienne, sont confrontés à une vie d’une violence aussi extrême que banale. Le développement économique de l’Inde et la mondialisation bouleversent les relations sociales et économiques, et accentuent aussi les inégalités, en entraînant un exode rural massif. Le rôle des femmes, l’accès à la terre, à l’eau et à l’éducation sont les principaux aspects de l’inégalité profonde de la société indienne. ’Untouchability’ is the most ancient feudal system that still exists in the world today. The Dalits, number around 300 million, nearly a third of the Indian population, are confronted with a life-style of violence as extreme as it is banal. India’s economic development and universalisation disrupt social and economic relations and also accentuate the inequality by causing a massive rural exodus. The role of women, access to land, water and education are the principal aspects of the deep inequality that exists in Indian society.
